1st Grade Mass
Our class received several complements for doing such a wonderful job presenting the whole-school Mass last Friday! I was extremely proud of all our efforts. Every single student did a tremendous job in performing his/her assigned duty. I would like to thank all parents and family members who helped their students prepare for their assignments at home, especially in practicing with students who read during the Mass. Your hard work at home is greatly appreciated!
Secret Santa Secret Santa will take place this Wednesday thru Friday (Dec. 12th- 14th) for students to purchase Christmas gifts for family/friends. Wednesday is strictly a “preview day” where we will visit Secret Santa only to view items so students can get an idea of what they would like to buy. Then on Thursday our class is scheduled to visit Secret Santa to make our purchases. It would be very much appreciated if you could help your child plan out their shopping in advance as best as possible. Please help them make a list of who they will shop for and about how much they will spend on each person. Please send this list in with their money and make sure your child knows how much money they have with them.
Christmas Play – Time Schedule and Arrival Details The St. Rose School Christmas Play will take place next Monday evening, Dec. 17th, at 7:00PM in the PCC. As I’m sure you know, it will be a very crowded event and the scene in the lower level of the PCC is likely to become increasingly chaotic as it gets closer to time for the play to start. Therefore, it would be very helpful if students could arrive by 6:30PM in the lower level of the PCC. I will be down there to meet, organize, and stay with our students. Children should come ready to go on stage with their Santa hats (and please remember: nice outfits or school uniforms- NO JEANS/T-SHIRTS).
Next Week & Christmas Break There will not be a homework packet assigned next week or over Christmas break. Nor will there be a spelling list/test. Also, this is the last newsletter that will be sent out before the break. I wish you all a very happy, healthy, and blessed Christmas and a fantastic start to the New Year! Please be safe and have an enjoyable break! –Ms. Ervin

Do not be concerned that you missed a 1st grade newsletter from last week, because I did not send one out. Also, please note that because we will only be in school two days next week (Thanksgiving week), there will not be a spelling test or homework packet assigned for next week. This means your child will not be bringing home a spelling list this Friday. I will also not be sending out a newsletter next week. 1St Grade Saints
I want to thank 1st grade parents and families for all the time and effort put into making the saints costumes that students wore for the All Saints Day Masses. All the students looked terrific and everything went very smoothly at both Masses! I also want to thank the parents and other family members who came in to help us prepare and organize for the school Mass that morning. Your help was greatly appreciated!
Book in a Bag
I will be out of school attending a seminar tomorrow (Nov. 13) so students will not bring home a new Book-in-a Bag selection for that evening.
Classroom Supplies
I have noticed that we are running low on hand sanitizer and paper towels for our classroom. If you are able and willing to purchase and send in either of these items, our class would be very appreciative!

Parent-Teacher Conferences I want to thank all of you for taking time out of your busy schedules to attend parent-teacher conferences last week. I feel very blessed to be working with such caring and supportive parents. I appreciate all the work you do at home to reinforce and encourage your child’s learning.
1St Grade Saints
All Saints Day is this Thursday, Nov. 1st. This is the day our 1st grade students will dress in costume as their assigned saints for both the 9:00am school Mass and the 6:00pm evening Mass. It would be best if students could arrive at school already in costume (or as close to it as possible) for the 9:00am school Mass. If any parents/grandparents or other family members are able and willing to come in and help us that morning it would be greatly appreciated! Students will also need to bring their school uniforms to change into after Mass for the remainder of the school day.
Fr. Jim has also invited students to attend the 6:00pm evening Mass in their costumes. This would give additional family members, friends, and parishioners who could not attend the school Mass the opportunity to see students dressed as their saints. Students are not required to come to the evening Mass but their attendance is strongly encouraged. If your child is able to attend the evening Mass please have them in the back of the church by 5:45 so we can get lined up for the opening procession. All Day Retreat
This Thursday after the All Saints Day school Mass, our class will be participating in an all day retreat with the rest of the school. It will be held here at our school. The retreat is entitled “Dignity of the Human Person” and it will focus on bullying issues. Since we will not be following our normal classroom routine, students will not bring home a new Book-in-a Bag selection for that evening. What We’re Learning: Language Arts: words with long ‘o’ sound; irregular plural nouns Math: addition strategies (make a ten, add in any order & add three numbers) Religion: getting ready for the Savior (prophets) Science: animals (movement & body coverings) Social Studies: from Earth to a globe; from a picture to a map

Parent – Teacher Conferences
Please do not forget to call the school office to schedule a conference time on either Oct. 24th or Oct. 25th. If you cannot make it this week, please let me know in some way (a short note in the home-school folder, email, or phone call to the school office) so that we can work something else out. Thank you.
Celebrating Halloween
In place of a class Halloween party, 1st grade will be participating in a classroom activity rotation with kindergarten, 2nd, 3rd, and 4th grades on the afternoon of Tuesday, Oct. 30th. The teachers (Mrs. Fondale, Mrs. Shumaker, Mrs. Lucas, Mrs. Reed and I) will plan Halloween related activities and each grade will rotate among the different classrooms in order to take part in each activity. We will not be passing out classroom treats, so please do not send any candy or snacks with your child to share with classmates.
